A good friend who owns a cottage on the Connecticut coast hosted a weekend of large format photographers back in June of ’17. As it happened there was a remarkably low tide on Sunday during the mid-morning harsh light. I thought I would love to come back here again when the low tide coincides with a sunrise. The low angle of the sun skipping across the patterns in the sand held the potential for a remarkable photograph. The owner of the cottage is a fine large format photographer himself and completely understood my desire to return.
I did some research and as revealed in these two short videos, serious photographers whether analog or digital don’t just show up and capture meaningful imagery, many times there is much planning beforehand in the hopes of all elements coming together for a memorable photograph. Or, as you’ll hear in the 1st video, my good friend Pete Wnek offered this gem on the drive home. “Nature doesn’t often release its beauty with Cooperative Ease”
Ain’t that the truth! We remember that Moonrise Hernandez was captured at the end of a non productive day. Anyone can take pretty pictures on a warm, blue sky day.
The photo is just another great one. The use of the Big camera is my favorite for sure. I don’t claim to know much about the process, but I do love when the SS “ Magic Happens”. !!
Thank you Darlene for checking some of the winter time back stories and of course offering your generous comments.
